Gear

The goal at Frog Hollow is to make great, natural-sounding recordings on a small budget. The gear here reflects that goal. We’ve got a wide variety of excellent microphones to catch the essence of whatever instrument or voice is in the studio. We pair these with some of the nicest preamps available, whether you’re looking for boutique-quality vintage vibe or pristine sonic accuracy. 30 channels of top notch A/D conversion ensure that your tracks are recorded in the highest fidelity.

  • Great River MP-500NV (3): New and improved take on the classic Neve sound
  • A-Designs p-1 (4): Based on the old Quad Eight consoles
  • Audient ASP880 & iD22: 10 super clean, transparent preamps
  • UA 4-710d: 4 tube/solid state blending mic preamps with 1176-style compression
  • Warm Audio TB12 "Tone Beast": Discrete Mic Pre in the API style
  • RME UFX: 4 extremely neutral “Micstasy” preamps

Microphones:

    Large Diaphragm Condenser:
    • ADK T-Fet 67: This Neumann U67-style multi-pattern mic is my go-to vocal mic for most singers
    • ADK T-Fet 251: A little less mid-forward than the 67, the 251 also shines on vocals
    • ADK TC-251 AU (Tube): Adds a tube flavor to the the T-Fet 251
    • ADK Hamburg Mk8 (2): Great balanced and warm mics for vocals, drums, horns...
    • ADK Vienna Mk8 (2): A more articulate and toppy version of the Hamburg

    • Blue Baby Bottle (4): My favorite LDC instrument mic, especially good on strings and horns
